Iceman Dhoni breaks SL hearts
Leave it to me, he says. I want to take this to the last over. Me
against one man. One on one. I know I am better than the last man the
other team can put up against me. Once again, MS Dhoni reduced a lost
match into a one-on-one contest with an opposition bowler, and knocked
off the 15 required in just three hits. You could see the bowler -
Shaminda Eranga, 9-2-34-2 until then, wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and
Virat Kohli to his name - was intimidated the moment he saw the first
one fly into the top of the top tier.
Bear in mind that this was a treacherous pitch with seam, spin and
uneven bounce. Dhoni was injured, and had come back only for this match.
He wasn't running as hard as he does, and wickets were falling at the
other end. When Dhoni came in, the asking-rate was 3.35, but with
falling wickets and turned-down singles, it hit the improbable towards
the end. Dhoni, though, kept refusing singles, kept admonishing the last
man Ishant Sharma for taking off for panic-stricken singles.
Ishant couldn't be blamed. The game had unravelled fast for India. They
were cruising when Rohit Sharma had braved for yet another fifty despite
another painful blow to his body (which makes it atleast four in two
innings against Sri Lanka), despite many balls that seamed past his
edge, despite the slow start. When India were 139 for 3 in the 32nd
over, though, Rangana Herath delivered a grubber, and it squeezed under
Rohit's bat. Things were about to change.

Losing captaincy help to england in ashes win
Kevin Pietersen believes it was for the
"good of English cricket" he lost the
England captaincy and coach Peter Moores
was sacked two years ago.
Pietersen says successors Andrew Strauss and
Andy Flower "need all the plaudits for an
unbelievable 18 months", including a double
Ashes win.
After England retained the Ashes, the batsman
said: "We would not be here today if I had not
done what I did.
"I got rid of the captaincy for the good of
English cricket."
Victory in the fourth Test in Melbourne saw
England retain the urn for the first time in 24
years, and a draw in the final Test in Sydney
would bring a series win in Australia for the
first time since 1987.

Australia the underdog in Ashes series
 Australia captain Michael Clarke
is under no illusions about the challenge his team is facing when the
Ashes series against England starts Wednesday at Trent Bridge.
Australia captain Michael Clarke
is under no illusions about the challenge his team is facing when the
Ashes series against England starts Wednesday at Trent Bridge."We come here as underdogs, there's no doubt about that," Clarke said. "It would be a great achievement (to win) for all the work we've put in but now it's about going out there on the biggest stage and playing well."
Clarke is Australia's only injury worry, and while he declared himself "100 percent" fit to play, he acknowledges that "my back (complaint) is something I've got to live with every day for the rest of my life."
England counterpart Alastair Cook acknowledged his side is expected to prevail across the five tests and make it three series victories in a row and four out of the past five, but downplayed his team's heavy favoritism.
Bhuvneshwar kumar , Rohit carry India to final
After a four-and-a-half hour rain interruption, Sri Lanka had ten
wickets available over a truncated 26 overs to chase 178. India needed
to restrict Sri Lanka to 167 or below to make the final ahead of West
Indies. In an ideal Twenty20 world, this was a situation loaded in
favour of the chasing side. The Queen's Park Oval pitch, with patches of
green spiced up by all the rain, was an ideal Test bowler's paradise,
though. And Bhuvneshwar Kumar used it to perfection, ending the chase
early and taking India to the final with a spell of 6-1-8-4, his best
international figures.
Bhuvneshwar got the ball to do so much, even survival became a lottery,
leave alone a chase that began at an asking rate of close to seven an
over. Some moved in, some moved away, some hit a green patch and bounced
extra, with Bhuvneshwar's impeccable control forcing the batsmen to
play at almost everything. It was only his 16th ODI, but Bhuvneshwar has
already built up a reputation for striking early in his spell. Again,
he did not disappoint.
Upul Tharanga flashed to the slips in Bhuvneshwar's second over, Kumar
Sangakkara got a first-ball shocker of a leg-before decision, Mahela
Jayawardene could not keep a cut down, and Lahiru Thirimanne hit an airy
drive. In no time, Sri Lanka were 31 for 4, and India already had the
final within their sights. Of course, it was the asking rate that made
the batsmen play all those strokes, but against the combination of
Bhuvneshwar and the pitch, the attempts were doomed to fail. The
spinners found generous help from the pitch as well, and made sure there
was no fightback from the Sri Lanka lower middle order. The margin of
the win showed just how futile a T20-style chase can be on a difficult
pitch.

The 79-year-old was arrested today from a relative's apartment in old Bhopal after a "vigorous search", the police said.

Sri Lanka very Close to final
Sri Lanka all but sealed their passage in the Tri-Nations series final
after Kumar Sangakkara inspired them to a 39-run win under the
Duckworth-Lewis method over the West Indies at Port of Spain.
In a contest that was carried over from Sunday due to the wet conditions, Sangakkara stood firm throughout Monday's reserve day to finish unbeaten on 90 off 95 balls to help the tourists to 219 for eight off their 41 overs.
Forced to chase a revised target of 230 from the same number of overs, the Windies ultimately came up short to finish on 190 for nine, despite battling half-centuries from Darren Bravo and Lendl Simmons. Angelo Mathews' men currently top the standings on nine points and would need to lose by a sizable margin against India to miss out on a place in Thursday's final.
